Do you ever wish kids clothes came in adult sizes? I do! Plus, kids really are able to pull off most trends with such ease, aren’t they?

Before every family photo session I chat with Mom about what to wear. I’m not one for too many rules – especially during a photo session; my general guideline is to have the whole family coordinate but not match. But what does that mean??? It simply means to try to avoid colours that clash. Think lime green on your son and bright orange on your daughter – clash. Instead, bring together the same colour families. Think navy, burgundy, jeans, grey flannel, dark turquoise. Or white, cream, and pastels.

But, with all that said, your photos must still feel like YOU. Which means it’s 100% ok to show some personality through your clothes, keeping in mind to avoid really neon colours or large graphics. Small prints, fun pops of colours and accessories are all A-Ok!

A few weeks ago I stopped by Max & Maude in Sherwood Park to pull together a couple of sample outfits the kids could wear for your photo session. I drive by Max & Maude daily and it takes serious restraint to not want to stop in to ogle at their new arrivals. When my kids were each born we were in quite a few time buying baby essentials, and now that they are older, I find myself going in regularly to buy shoes and fun accessories for the girls. (My 5 year old daughter wears her Plae shoes from Max & Maude every single day of the week and loves having the ability to change her shoe straps to a different pattern whenever she wants!).

You’ll see below that these outfits are far from lacking personality and have a bit of spunk (like the kitty cat shoes, those have serious spunk!). The clothes are casual, easy to play in, comfortable and on-trend.
