Often times when I tell people that my passion is storytelling photography, I get sort of a puzzled look. I get it….it’s a different type of photography than many people are used to. I strongly believe that documenting the every day is just as important as having the smiling, happy family portraits. The every day isn’t perfect. It’s messy, often disorganized, real, tangible, and the moments that make up the true essence of our family. I want to always remember the little moments that let us just be us. And in all honestly, these are the pictures that end up on my walls – right beside our family portraits. Telling your story doesn’t have to be fussy or complicated. A small activity can turn into the perfect photographic story.
A few days ago, my daughter and I set up camp on the kitchen table with our seeds, dirt and jugs and jugs of water. The result was dirt flying everywhere, a lot of water spilt, and memories that I am happy to have documented. Here’s just a small example of how I tell stories through photos. If you’d like to learn more about what a storytelling session in your house would be like please check out my Session Info.
