During each pre-session meeting I suggest having a few swaddles out and ready for our session. Swaddles that you love and that you won’t tire seeing in photos years from now. Claire’s mom chose the most adorable Aloha swaddle from Coco Moon Hawaii that was the perfect fit. Walking into this family’s home it was easy to feel the Hawaiin love. There were little bits of beach decor on end tables and the whole house was decorated with teals and blues, bringing the ocean house feel to a Sherwood Park home (which happens to be in the deep-freeze winter we experience half the year!). I just loved that the swaddle meshed so seamlessly into the decor. It’s the small things!
One of the reasons I love in-home photo sessions so much is because it allows life to carry on, even I’m there taking photos. When you have a 2 year old who’s still adjusting to the new role of Big Brother, sometimes the comforts of home are just needed. During this newborn session in Sherwood Park we took many breaks for Tonka Truck driving and snacks (and even the occasional toddler meltdown – I do have a theory that crying brings a bit of good luck to a session!).
Claire was one of the most content babies I’ve worked with in a really long time. It didn’t matter who was holding her, she was happy to be snuggled in, often with her eyes open checking out what big brother was doing around her. Below is the slideshow from the newborn photo session followed by a few of my favourite still images.
