Have you ever thought about hiring a photographer to capture your family gathering? So that you could just hang out and actually enjoy the company, play with your kids and eat a hot meal instead of worrying about documenting the moments? I can tell you that it takes a lot of stress out of the event and in the end, you walk away with an awesome slideshow from your day and maybe even an album that you can flip through for years to come. Years from now your kiddos will love looking through the album and seeing how small they once were as they played with their baby cousins.

Last summer I spent 5(ish) hours documenting this lovely family for a half day in the life session at their family cabin on the shores of Pigeon Lake. As a blended family, each side with 3 grown kids and all accompanying spouses, kids and dogs, it was a rarity that they were all able to be together at the same time (especially since some family members live in Europe!). When the families all met for the first time in 2011 it was at this same cabin that they gathered at again 6 years later. This time I was invited to tag along for the day (I don’t turn down beach days!) and I worked on telling the story of their day through photos and a bit of video. We spent time playing in the sand, having a bbq, out on the jet skis and also made time to sneak away with each family for a few minutes for some really casual family photos. I left our time together exhausted, a bit sunburnt, full of sand and incredibly happy that I was able to tell this family’s story.
