Over the last few years, I’ve fallen in love with reading again, but over the past 6 weeks, it has become a total lifeline for me while staying at home. Most nights you can generally find me either watching totally trashy reality TV or engrossed in a new novel. It’s just the escape I need right now – where I’m able to get lost in a good tale.
Last month I launched a brand new online book club, as a way to do something together while we’re home and have fun while doing it. Our first book was The Girl He Used To Know by Tracey Garvis Graves.
This was the perfect book to launch the book club with. It’s the story of Annika and Johnathon, who first meet in university in the 90s and then reconnect again in 2001. It was a really fast read that I thoroughly enjoyed. The timeline jumps back and forth between time and each time reveals just a little more of the story, which keeps you wondering how it’s going to end. As a kid who came to age in the 90s, I also enjoyed going back to that time – remember when there were no cell phones???
Ok, so, let’s move on to May!
How far will you go to protect your family? Will you keep their secrets? Ignore their lies?In a small town in Virginia, a group of people know each other because they’re part of a special treatment center, a hyperbaric chamber that may cure a range of conditions from infertility to autism. But then the chamber explodes, two people die, and it’s clear the explosion wasn’t an accident.
A powerful showdown unfolds as the story moves across characters who are all maybe keeping secrets, hiding betrayals. Chapter by chapter, we shift alliances and gather evidence: Was it the careless mother of a patient? Was it the owners, hoping to cash in on a big insurance payment and send their daughter to college? Could it have been a protester, trying to prove the treatment isn’t safe?
If you can’t grab it online through your library, here are the links to buy:
