Edmonton Maternity Photographers
We were sitting at their kitchen table, with their yellow lab Benny nudging at my leg, when they told me they’d been married just 3 feet away from me. Standing together in their kitchen, solidifying a romance that proves love actually can travel the world to find its match. She’s from Russia, he’s from Brazil, and they met while completing their PhDs in Tennessee. What are the odds? The odds are probably slim, but that is what makes this love story such a good one.
Together they’ve made Edmonton their home (ask either of them, it’s COLD Edmonton to them!), and are now counting down the days until their Canadian-born baby arrives. And he might not know it yet, but this little baby boy is in for a wonderful life with these 2 lovely humans as his parents (and his fur sibling, who I am sure will be ready with plenty of licks). He’s going to be doted on in multiple languages, taken on long walks with Benny, and serenaded to using the array of guitars in their home.
We met in their Edmonton home 7 weeks before baby was due to arrive. It was a grey, windy, spring evening, but we made the best of it and used the grey skies to our advantage. When I delivered their online gallery a few days later, I received the most beautiful words back from this Mama-to-be:
“There are so many photographers to choose from these days. They offer so many wonderful styles; your photo session can take so many different directions. When I thought about what kind of pictures I wanted for this special occasion, I always leaned more towards “photos with soul” as I called them in my head. They are quirky, and they tell a story. You look at one picture and you see a whole world behind it. They capture a regular moment from your life and make it special.
When I saw Kelly’s website, I knew immediately she does exactly what I was looking for. I am so happy we found her! I look at us through her eyes and lenses and admire the beauty, if I do say so myself. It’s the beauty of everyday things and activities. It’s the beauty that is all around us all the time, but for some reason we ignore it so often. Well, in these photos it is exposed and obvious. Simple. Amazing. Real.”
Stay tuned for more as I’ll be documenting this family again in the summer after their little guy makes his appearance.

P.S. As we were sitting at their table talking about their kitchen wedding, I shared with them my story of how my husband and I were married in a JP’s living room. Although our ‘real’ wedding was in Mexico, we were legally married months before, with the baseball game on the radio in the background and 2 witnesses we’d paid $20 each to stand with us (who were the JP’s neighbours!). It’s stories like this that make each of our journeys unique, but also bound with a thread of commonality.
