You’re busy, I get it. So am I.
So, today I’m sharing 3 super easy kid-approved Christmas activities that you can with very little prep (I’m talking no extra trip to the store!).
This December we’ve been doing a Christmas activity advent calendar. Honestly, I probably took on a bit too much work (classic overcompensation!), but there have been a few activities that have been VERY little work with huge reward.
So, if you need to entertain your kiddos between tearing off the wrapping paper and inhaling turkey, you can pull these out and get them going in no-time.
My girls LOVE looking at Christmas lights. We usually do it in the car in PJs with Hot Cocoa from Starbucks and carols on the radio, but this year I added in a walking neighbourhood hunt to our light festivities.
I made up a quick list of things to find, printed a list out to each kid, gave them a marker and we set out after dark to walk the block.
The list was perfect as the things were easy to find and we were able to check them all off the list within about 15 minutes.
To make it more challenging I’d recommend adding quantities to each item (i.e. find 5 Santas).
The list also has graphics on it so that little ones who don’t read yet can know what they’re finding.
Grab the list here, print it off and go hunting.
This is an easy and quick activity that brought such joy to my kids. If your kid is smaller, then a flashlight might be a better option, but my girls are obsessed with candles so they were very into this.
I lit the candles, gathered a bunch of Christmas books from the library and we read books for over half an hour.
I have my friend Jenny of Jenny Rusby Photography to thank for this one! She told me it was her kids’ favourite holiday activity and, honestly, I didn’t get the fuss.
That is…until we did it.
Let me tell you…..since blowing bubbles a few days ago, I’ve been asked multiple (hundreds???) of times if we can do this for Valentine’s Day, Easter, birthday, etc.
Grab a glass, pour in milk, add food colouring, put a plate underneath and let your kid go to town blowing bubbles.
I actually had NO idea that milk could do this, but the bubbles are amazing and my kids were busy for 40 minutes before school one day (I had to refill the glasses a few times!).
As there’s tons of dye in the milk, I’d recommend not letting anyone drink it. But, this would be a great way to use up the milk that’s on the edge of sour.
As always, I’d love to hear if you do any of these activities and if you’re family enjoyed them as much as mine!
