That time I shot a wedding.
Yes, really.
I’m not sure there is any other day that is more full of story and moments than a wedding day. Having worked mostly with families and babies for the past few years, I’m pretty good at finding the story that lies within the everyday, mundane moments that might not seem special, but are the little scraps of fabric that make up your life.
But a wedding?
A wedding is just chock full of moments and narrative from the time the sun rises to the time the last song plays. Anticipation, excitement, tenderness, laughter, tears, worry, elation, uninhibited dancing…it’s all there. My goal with this wedding was to document all of those feelings, while also finding the quieter ones – the ones that reflect the strength of love that is abundant in this relationship.
Jessica and Taylor were married at Predator Ridge Resort in the Okanagan Valley on an early September day amidst their closest family and friends who joined them for their destination wedding. Although the days before and after their wedding day were sunny, they were greeted with a rainy drizzle for most of their wedding day. It made for some really fast changes in plans – moving the ceremony from outside to inside – but also provided some really lovely sky and hazy backdrops for their portraits. When I talked with Jessica and Taylor before their wedding they said they really wanted to capture the joy of having everyone together for their day and I’d say we succeeded in doing that!
Thanks to Zoya Lynch for shooting this wedding with me and doing such an awesome job.
Below is the slideshow of the day followed by a few of my favourite still photos.
