A few years ago I published a bucket list of sessions that I wanted to photograph, one of the items on that list was a session with twins. I didn’t have a twins session that year, but I’m not convinced it’s because this session was meant to come my way this year. And not only did this session have twins, but it also had the story of moving homes, which happens to be one of my favourite types of stories to tell (check out another moving story here).
Our houses are such a big part of us. They are where we are allowed to let our guards down, where we can celebrate with wild abandon, where we learn to savour the quiet moments, and where the small everyday moments pile up into a pretty remarkable life. So to say goodbye to one home (that you lovingly redid almost every inch of) and move into a new home full of untapped potential, is a pretty big deal. This new home is the one these girls are going to take first steps and say first words in. It’s the one they are going to remember.
This family photo session started out at the old house as the girls woke up from a nap, and then had some excer-saucer time as lunch was prepared. Then lunch was demolished, outfits were changed, books we read and kiddos were buckled into car seats. (You guys, these parents are simply amazing as I was exhausted just watching them and trying to document it all!) A quick drive to the new neighbourhood and we arrived at the empty house that would soon become a home. The dogs ran in the backyard and the girls looked through the windows, and then they were so exhausted that they had a nap at their new home and I snuck out quietly.
Below is a slideshow of our time together, followed by a few of my favourite still images.
Thank you T & N for inviting me to hang with you for a morning and for documenting this momentous time in your lives.
P.S. This session was a Father’s Day gift. Did you know we can make that happen? I’ll even give you a cool little card to give to the recipient! <3
